You must have an idea of what kind of pre-wedding shoot you are looking for and should be able to communicate that idea to your photographer. You can also ask your photographer to give location recommendations according to your theme. It’s extremely important that the photographer understands your needs and suggests themes/locations accordingly.

While some couples merely want photos taken, others insist on a video session as well. Sometimes, cinematographers don’t undertake still photography. Be aware of all the props and other items you must bring on your own. Ask your photographer if they already have the required props and can get them for the shoot.

5. Makeup and wardrobe recommendation

Ask your photographer what kind of make-up and wardrobe would go with your theme and location for the pre-wedding shoot. Photographers have good knowledge of colour theory and would help you choose what looks best on camera. If you already have some ideas in mind, discuss them with your photographer before going ahead with any purchases.

6. Session fee and overtime rates

Make sure to have a full-fledged discussion about the cost of the services your photographer will be providing. Discuss your budget and requirements as well. Additionally, inquire whether they provide any discounts. Don’t forget to ask them about their overtime charges and payment policies.

7. Camera and other equipment

Don’t be afraid to ask about technical things. You can always ask about the camera and other equipment they are going to use. Videographers charge extra for videos shot by drone. So, inquire about the drone charges beforehand.

8. Backup plan

There are several factors, like weather and health, that might interfere with your pre-wedding shoot. Ask your photographer whether they have a Plan B in case Plan A doesn’t work out. Inquire about the policy in the event that deliverables are delayed or lost. Ask if they have a backup team in place in case of a last-minute emergency.

9. Written agreement

A written agreement acts as security for both the client and the photographer. Discuss with your photographer if you want a written agreement for the pre-wedding shoot. A written agreement must include details like payment, guarantees, studio policies, your rights, and the photographer’s rights.
