Visual Effects in Baahubali and Baahubali 2

The blockbuster movie series Baahubali and Baahubali 2 were directed by S.S. Rajamouli and produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni. Whether it’s the grandeur of the waterfalls in the opening scene, the epic war sequence, or the fight sequence of Rana’s character Bhallal Deva fighting a bison, Baahubali has taken VFX in Indian cinema to new heights.

The person behind movies’  VFX  was Srinivas Mohan, he coordinated with 16 companies. It took two and a half years to make this movie. the VFX work was predominantly carried out in India with studios from Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, in addition about 10 International studios were also hired from Ukraine, Iran, USA, and UK. Here are some of the behind the scenes of Baahubali and Baahubali 2

 

1. The Bull Scene

The epic bull fight scene was shot by visual effects. Instead of a real bull a fake bull face was used to shot the scene because obviously the real bull can not be used as the bull or the actor can not be harmed.

The scene was shot with the chroma key background so that later on visual effects can be added.

 

2. The waterfall

The beautiful waterfall that we saw in the movie was actually just a visual effect, in reality this scene was shot with a chroma key background and the visuals were later added.

The alluring and mesmerizing opening scenes of the movie were actually produced in a studio.

3. The Mahishmati Kingdom

The spell binding beauty of the Mahishmati kingdom was produced by visual effects. All the scenes that showed the whole kingdom were visual effects. The beauty of the kingdom was no doubt charming.

4. The War scene

The epic war scene of the movie was also created by the visual effects. The clouds, the color of the sky, the crowd.

Most of the shots were taken using the chroma key background. The fire arrow was also a visual effect. It was very beautifully shot.

5. The snow scene

The snow falling from the mountain looks so real but is actually is a product of visual effects. The day to night conversion in so many scenes in shot so beautifully.  The breaking of stones in snow, the river scene with small fishes.
